Teams will fly into Hanoi in Vietnam where they will begin to acclimatise to the heat and humidity of south-east Asia. Spending a few days in the bustling capital city, the team can explore the lively old quarter and a variety of market stalls.
Vietnam is host to dense and lush forest, vast swathes of agricultural land, and towering mountainous terrain. The teams will head west to begin their trek in the hills of Mai Chau. During their trek they will walk through jungle, past rice fields, and will stay in the homestays of different ethnic groups, experiencing the everyday living of the Dao and H’mong people. Your local guides will be able to introduce you to the way of life of the people, as well as explaining the flora and fauna you will see along the way in the nature reserve.
Most teams will be able to trek straight into their project site. Here the teams will spend time with the local community and engage in projects requested by the locals. This could include developing village infrastructure such as building much needed footpaths for the community or brick ovens for families. They will also get the chance to engage with children in the village and practice their basic language skills.
No trip to Vietnam would be complete without a boat trip to the spectacular Halong Bay! Travel past towering limestone pillars and tiny islets topped by forest in the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Take an overnight train to the imposing imperial city of Hue, brimming with history on the ancient streets. Travel onwards to the quaint Hoi An, famous for it’s many talented tailors. Here teams could join a cooking lesson or visit My Son temples.
