The Expedition

Phase 1: Acclimatisation

Teams will fly into Durban or Johannesburg, then head on towards the Drakensberg Mountains. Overnighting in a hostel at the foot of the breath-taking mountain range will allow the team to acclimatise to life in Lesotho and prepare for their next phase.

Phase 2: Trek

There are many stunning treks to choose from in Lesotho and in particular around the Drakensberg Mountains. Completing the Giant’s Cup Trail is a chance to take on a physical challenge in some of the most beautiful scenery Lesotho has to offer, overnighting in huts and even spending a night in a mountain cave. Teams may be lucky enough to spot an endangered Bearded Vulture or Black and Martial eagles.

Phase 3: Project

The project phase is an incredible opportunity to work alongside local people in Lesotho, learning about the culture whilst providing a helping hand in different areas of local life. Past projects have included building a water tank for a village school, making organic community gardens, renovating classrooms and carrying out repairs on community building whilst trying out some teaching. Teams can also spend two days working on conservation at Gwahumbe game reserve.

Phase 4: Culture & Review

Hluhluwe Game Reserve (pronounced ‘scha-schlu-wey’) is the oldest existing wildlife sanctuary in South Africa, and home to all of the ‘Big Five’! The Reserve is renowned for bringing back the endangered species of black and white rhino and wild dog from extinction.
