The Expedition

Phase 1: Acclimatisation

On arrival in Ethiopia, teams will spend some time in the cosmopolitan capital of Addis Ababa adjusting to African life.

Phase 2: Trek

The main trekking phases can take place in the Simien Mountains, either around the Mesket Escarpment or Ethiopia’s highest peak - Ras Dashen (4543m). Teams can choose 4-7 day treks, each offering challenging climbs and remote trails, taking in waterfalls along the route. Alternatively, teams can opt to complete a trek in the Lalibela valley region.

Phase 3: Project

Projects are usually carried out in schools where teams can help with maintenance work, fixing buildings or general jobs with plenty of opportunity for interaction with local villagers and children. Community projects, perhaps renovating community buildings, are also an option. All projects are chosen in consultation with the community to ensure their needs are met.

Phase 4: Relaxation and Culture

Teams will spend time exploring the ancient world of medieval, rock-hewn churches in Lalibela, the 17th Century architecture and castle of Gonder. Teams can also visit ‘Lucy’, our 3.2 million year old ancestor in Addis Ababa museum. From Bahir Dar teams could also take a boat trip on Lake Tana, visiting the numerous monasteries or the incredible Blue Nile falls.
