Peru is like a miniature continent! It offers a wide range of experiences from stunningly beautiful landscapes, ancient ruins, emerald mountain lakes and people of unique friendly character. Then there is the food – an array of mouth-watering food derived from native and contemporary ingredients.
Remember, all our expeditions are created bespoke so you're not restricted by what you see here. If you're undecided about where to go, just call us, we love sharing ideas.
The world really is your oyster!
Depending on their arrival point, teams can opt to spend a couple of days adjusting to both culture and altitude while exploring the beautiful colonial towns of either Cusco or Arequipa.
The main trekking phase takes place high in the Andes, passing through remote villages and mountain communities. Teams can follow the Salkantay trail to the foothills of Machu Picchu or trek through the lush cloud forests of the Sacred valley. Alternatively north of Cusco teams could trek through the Amazon rainforest in Manu National Park or from Arequipa, trek into the stunning Colca Canyon following the Colca River.
In this valuable and rewarding phase teams can volunteer and take part in a variety of environmental and community based projects. Projects usually take place in remote mountain communities. Past examples include working with an orphanage, building classrooms, warehouse restoration and reforestation schemes. All projects are chosen in consultation with the community to ensure their needs are met.
No visit to Peru is complete without visiting the mysterious Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. Teams can also choose to visit the floating grass Uros Islands in Lake Titicaca or the Ballestas Islands. In Manu National Park the team can explore the Amazon River by boat learning about the environment, flora and fauna.
Our Peruvian adventure is graded as an moderate to hard; however, depending on the chosen trek some more challenging days can be expected. The fitter you are the more you will enjoy the expedition.
